Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn
(Illinois) and spent the majority of her childhood living in Chicago. But when
Amy was in junior high her family also lived in the Middle East where her
parents, Bob and Barb, taught at the American School. Amy is the youngest of
three siblings, sisters Betsy and Lori and Joe, the brother. Joe. Amy has
traveled all over Europe with her family as well as independently. Both of them
were teachers and were able to travel and camp together each summer due to
this. In reality, they've camp in every state with the exception of Alaska. Amy
was also in Rwanda following the 1994 war to aid in relief efforts. Amy was a
gifted artist from the beginning through acting in school plays, as well as
taking part in writing competitions. She was a promising athlete during high
school, and was a participant in the first ever 3200-meter relay in Illinois
girls track. After an injury, she returned to school and played many parts on
the stage, beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth July” and then directed
Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Da and Lemon. Amy went to Knox College in Galesburg,
Illinois which is where she graduated with a cum laude, the degree of B.A. East
Asian history with a specialization in Theater. She relocated to Chicago
following graduation and began studying Improv at the Improv Olympic, and
performed in the theater at The Actor's Center. Following graduation, she took
on a job as a contract actress on the defunct soap series Another World (1964).
She was nominated for the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in Daytime Drama
Series" category for the Daytime Emmy Award. Her most memorable roles
included those of strong women as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000),
Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson currently resides in New
York City together with Syd Butler (bassist of Les Savy Fav), and where she is
also part-owner of Frenchkiss Records. Amy is continuing to write and seek out
diverse and unique roles in the world of film.
