Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara was a renowned American actor and singer from Irish origin. Her fiery, passionate character she played in several American films attracted attention to the green-eyed beauty. Her natural beauty and glamorous appearance was well-loved and she was widely regarded as the 'Queen of Technicolor in Hollywood. Her roles on screen reflect her brave, strong spirit who fought for her survival and fame in a male-dominated world. She was referred to as the "tough Irish girl" and did not sacrifice her fame or respect in order to obtain the roles she was able to get on merit. She stood up for the injustices and unfair treatment of women actors during her film career. She also gained a lot if supporters. The autobiography 'Tis Herself', written by her', published in 2004, provided an honest and authentic story of her entire life's experiences, including the difficulties in climbing the ladder to success. She was an adventurous woman who was not afraid to perform herself stunts. She starred in over 60 films, and was a international star. She remarried in 1968 with Charles F. Blair Jr. an ex-pilot brigadier and chief, who were pioneers of transatlantic aviation. O'Hara went on to retire a few years after the couple's marriage. Blair however, was killed in a tragic plane accident in 1978. O'Hara's happiness lasted only a few days. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer the same year and underwent an immediate surgery. She was able to recover. Over the next few years, her health began to decline and she was diagnosed with six heart attacks, short-term memory loss and diabetes mellitus type 2. O'Hara was 95 years old. She peacefully died in Boise on the 24th of October, 2015.
